10-year health plan: hits and misses for children's mental wellbeing

Professor Eamon McCrory, our Chief Executive, has shared his thoughts on the new 10-Year Health Plan in this article for Children & Young People Now.

He details three ways he believes the blueprint delivers for children and young people's mental health, and three ways he thinks it doesn't.

The pros, or "promising steps", are:

  • Emphasis on early years and prevention
  • An early years strategy
  • Better understanding of adolescents.

The cons - areas that need "more emphasis" and "significant investment" - are:

  • Funding and a strategic plan for prevention
  • Perinatal mental health
  • More and earlier trauma-informed support.
