Reducing parental conflict programme

CORC and the National Centre for Family Hubs have been working with Foundations, the National What Works Centre for Children and Families, to support the delivery and evaluation of the Reducing Parental Conflict (RPC) programme across ten different local areas.

We worked with local area teams to design and implement evaluation plans to systematically measure the impact of their RPC programme, develop outcomes frameworks using appropriate measurement tools, and facilitate staff training to build confidence in using measures to demonstrate impact. Several local areas prioritised evaluating RPC staff training, and the impact this had on knowledge, skills and behaviour, which we shared in an earlier blog.

We worked closely with local areas for 6 months, resulting in a series of cases studies which are available here and detailed below.

Capturing the voice of the child in Devon’s RPC programme

We supported Devon County Council to introduce child assessment measures into their routine practice with families, and to develop practitioner workshops to build staff confidence in the meaningful use of questionnaires with children. The key aim of this project was to incorporate the voice of the child into the RPC programme to empower parents and practitioners to understand and address the impact of parental conflict on children.

Developing a measurement pathway for Dorset’s RPC programme

Dorset County Council embarked on a journey with support from CORC to develop a comprehensive measurement pathway for their RPC program. Collaborating with stakeholders and experts, Dorset explored and tested various assessment tools, leading to the development of a proportionate pathway that struck the right balance between ease of usage and depth of information gained.

Evaluating RPC training in Sheffield and Essex

CORC supported teams in Sheffield and Essex to assess the impact of RPC training on staff knowledge, confidence and behaviour. Using the Kirkpatrick model, local areas conducted surveys, observations, focus groups, interviews, and data audits and gained valuable insights highlighting areas for improvement in promoting toolkit training and maintaining RPC on their agenda.

Evaluating the Parenting When Separated programme in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire County Council collaborated with us to develop an evaluation plan in alignment with their RPC outcomes framework to assess the impact of the Parenting When Separated programme. Hertfordshire conducted a redesign of existing measurement tools, a review of outcome measures and held a practitioner training workshop to improve procedures around data capture to support evaluation.
