School staff wellbeing support
Any conversation about supporting children’s wellbeing must also include how we support school leaders, teachers and other school staff to ensure that their mental health and wellbeing is prioritised.
Research by Education Support at the end of last year, used the WEMWBS outcome measure to determine a wellbeing score for teachers in England, details of which were published in Schools Week. They found a worsening of wellbeing among England’s school staff, with rates for teachers at their lowest levels since 2019 and now below that of senior leaders.
When staff wellbeing is a priority, staff feel better equipped to support the wellbeing of the children and young people they work with and build trust and motivation, which is crucial for a mentally healthy school.
To help your school better understand how your staff are feeling, our Wellbeing Measurement for Schools staff survey is a comprehensive tool that allows your school to understand the areas of strength and challenges for your staff. It uses validated tools to:
-
understand how staff are feeling about the support systems in the school
-
ascertain their own mental wellbeing about the ability and capacity to support the children and young people in the school
-
explores aspects of school culture which may be affecting staff wellbeing.
Providing you with information to show what's working well, and where possible intervention is required, so budget and time can be used most effectively for the benefit of staff and your school.
The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. Your school can then review the responses in the final survey report, which you can share with staff and governors. The staff survey report also analyses the data from your school and compares it with data from other schools.
