NIHR Great Ormond Street Hospital Biomedial Research Centre conference

On 5 November, Rachael Stemp, Participation in Research Officer at CORC, and Bez Martin, Head of Participation at Anna Freud, attended the “Next Steps for PPIE: Sharing Knowledge, Creating Solutions” conference. The event was hosted by NIHR Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Biomedical research centre, and the UCL Institute of Child Health.

It was a fantastic day of networking and learning with over 50 representatives, including young people who have received medical treatment at GOSH. The event marked the launch of the NIHR Participation in Research Collaborative, of which we are excited to be a member.

Rachael and Bez gave a presentation on “Practical Applications of the Lundy model”, sharing their experiences around how Anna Freud and CORC use the Lundy model of participation within our research.

They shared examples from the D-CYPHR (DNA, Children and Young People's Health Resource) and Kailo projects, and talked about how they use the Lundy model to plan research sessions and “outside of research” activities, and to gather feedback. There was lots of positive feedback afterwards from attendees, including from Professor Lundy herself.

We are looking forward to continuing to support the Collaborative and see the expansion of participation across children’s physical and mental health research.
