New guidance: Using outcome and feedback tools in the treatment of children and young people with eating disorders
Whilst there are many mental health services that provide support to children and young people with disordered eating, CORC identified a lack of practical guidance on how to incorporate outcome measurement into their support.
The standard guidance on routine outcome measurement applies to all types of emotional and mental health support for children and young people, but there are some distinct factors that should be considered when supporting children and young people with eating disorders that go beyond our existing guidance on good practice in the use of outcome measures. CORC convened a group of allied professionals to develop specific guidance, to help anyone providing support for children and young people with any type of eating disorder.
The group advised that specific measures of disordered eating be used alongside more general measures of symptoms of mental health difficulties or measures of life functioning or wellbeing, as this new guidance provides. In addition to using goal-based measures to understand and track the individual needs.
We’d like to thank the practitioners and researchers from these organisations for their contributions within the working group: Eating Disorders Association Northern Ireland, East London Foundation Trust, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, SWEDA, First Steps ED and Royal College of Psychiatrists.
