Making person-centred care a reality: practical advice for commissioners, practitioners and managers

Following a lively and insightful set of ’master classes‘  on person-centred care as part of a project funded by the Health Foundation, we spotted an opportunity to share what we had learned and help make person-centred care a reality for staff and young people across the child mental health system.

A wealth of information and experience was shared by the practitioners, commissioners and service managers attending these events. Their insights highlighted that person-centred care is a collaborative effort with staff in different roles having distinct but important contributions to make the provision, support or promotion of person-centred approaches in services.  

EBPU and CORC decided to write a series of booklets to help individuals understand what person-centred care means for them and their particular role in child mental health.  Each is written with a different perspective in mind, sharing learning and providing practical, accessible advice on embedding person-centred approaches.

Empowering children and young people

One of the booklets, produced in collaboration with Common Room, has been written by young people for young people.  What you can expect from your service supports young people to understand how they can get involved by in their care, and what their service should be offering to enable them to do this.

EBPU and CORC are committed to supporting services to move towards best practice. To inform the guidance in these booklets we have reviewed some key policy and practice issues in implementing person-centred care in child and adolescent mental health services, and we continue to work with similarly committed people across the system to ensure that person-centred care becomes a reality.
