Goal-oriented practices in youth mental health and wellbeing settings: A scoping review and thematic analysis of empirical evidence
Our Research Lead, Jenna Jacob, recently led some research to map the evidence-base for goal-oriented practices in children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing settings.
In the paper published open access here, the authors synthesise the evidence for how mental health and wellbeing goals are defined and implemented in practice, the features of goals set, and the tools that are used to track outcomes.
Jenna and her co-authors are hopeful that this paper provides food for thought and learning about how goal-oriented practices are implemented internationally.
The review identified considerable variation in how goal-oriented practices are defined, operationalised, and measured. Therefore, the authors suggest several areas for further research and exploration. This includes work towards the development of best practice principles in order to move towards transparency in the understanding and delivery of goal-oriented practices.
To take this further, we are collaborating with our CORC members and colleagues from IWK Health in Canada, on developing practice principles for goals work (Research funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research and lead by Dr Lori Wozney; see more here).
