Developing practice principles for working with goals in children and young people’s mental health settings
CORC are collaborating with our Canadian CORC members, IWK, on a project to develop some practice principles for working with goals in children and young people’s mental health settings.
Following a literature review, focus groups and interviews with clinicians, young people and parents and carers, we will be holding two focus groups with clinicians to refine the draft practice principles. These will take place online on 23 July 2025 at 4pm and 24 July 2025 at 5pm. Below is an invitation for more information if you are interested in taking part.
The initial scoping review can be found here.
Hello from Halifax, Nova Scotia!
We’ve been working as a research team with Canadian and international partners on advancing key practice principles for working with goals in youth mental health contexts. The project was funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
Now that we have completed reviews of the literature, interviewed and held focus groups with youth and caregivers we want to take time to speak with the people who do this work everyday- clinicians! We have Research Ethics Board approval to host two small focus group. The conversations will help further refine our candidate principles, focusing on how best to present and describe them in ways that are meaningful and useful to clinicians.
We’ve set aside 2 dates for 1-hour online discussions via Microsoft Teams. We would be thrilled if you could contribute to shaping these principles ahead of broader dissemination. If you are available to attend on one of these dates, please reply to this email indicating your preferred date.
We know summer is a super busy time. If you are unable to attend but have a member of your clinical team, colleague, resident, post-doctoral student, or clinical educator who has experience working with or training others in working goals in the context of youth mental health please forward this email.
