CORC collaborates in BPS-funded project to grow best practice in using outcome measures in CYP with Learning Difficulties
Special Measures?' - equality and diversity in feedback and outcome measures: Progressing practice and practice-guidance on measures and methods for children and young people with learning disabilities (LD), their families and networks
We are excited to be a collaborator on this British Psychological Society (BPS) funded project. Currently there is no clear consensus about the best ways to measure outcomes and gain meaningful feedback from children and young people with learning disabilities and their families. It is recognised that children and young people with learning disabilities experience higher rates of emotional and behavioural challenges, but are under-represented in research, which emphasises the importance of this project.
The aim of the project is to advance and grow ‘best practice’ in gathering feedback and using outcome measures with children and young people with learning disabilities (CYP-LD), their families and networks and is built on previous work in this field completed in 2015 which you can read about on our website.

Further guidance can be found in the ‘Guide to Using Outcomes and Feedback Tools with Children, Young People and Families’ (p. 108-114)
A vital part of the project is to hear from professionals working in this field. We really need your help to build up a clear picture of which outcome measures are being used across the UK and how useful services and families find these. The findings will inform national guidance which will be published in December 2020.
CORC hosts and participates in the project. Jeni McElwee, Neil Phillips and Ro Rossiter, from the BPS’s Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) Children, Young People and their Families Faculty LD Network leading project strands, with Professor Eric Emerson also collaborating.
